Huge state pension obligations and benefit packages the private sector would never tolerate.

Seniors can get property tax relief here if their income is below a certain level- there are state programs available for tax reduction. The state also has a program for those falling below a certain income in which they pay no medicare monthly payment deducted from their SS check. There is also a prescription drug program called 'Conn Pace' witch helps lower income Seniors pay little to nothing for their drugs.

Many southern 'RED States' offer no such programs. If you are a Senior making a high income in retirement- and you feel your taxes in CT do not allow you the kind of disposable income to live a 'high end' lifestyle- perhaps a lower tax state would be best- at least in the first part of your retirement.

That is the thing, people pay allot to live here in return we get nothing, literally nothing.

Usually it's a matter of a corrupt government which most people would rather believe doesn't exist and turn a blind eye to.

Until Malloy is in power this state will continue to decline on all levels. Seriously would replace Malloy with Rowland at this point.

The states pension obligations is 10% of the budget and even a rushed changeover to private sector retirement plans would only drop this by a couple percentage points.

The actual state pension obligation should amount to 9.6 billion annually if the state fully funded its ongoing obligation to its pension funds...the state has only funded 55% of its obligations .. the second worst in the country.. second only to Illinois. The 4.6 billion for the current fiscal year funding continues to compound the problem.

As of the end of 2014 the citizens of Connecticut owe $56,000 for each man, woman and child in the state to its pension funds and the continued short funding only makes matters worse.

ONLY-LOL! Now add in fringe benefits like Ct employer Health Care portion far in excess of typical 72% (on average, private sector employees pay 28% of the premium. Get state to SAME level).
