Hello,

I may be jumping the gun here a bit as my Husband hasn't gotten the offer yet, but I've got a really good feeling he'll be starting a job in Windsor (Day Hill Rd area near 91) soon. I've read in a few threads on here that Windsor has a lot of events/activities to offer a family but the schools aren't that great so we might not want to buy a house there. Living in Bloomfield for a few years now I'm already familiar with West Hartford, Avon, Simsbury and Farmington....but I'm not familiar with Windsor or what other towns might work as well.

So here is my wishlist....

1- 15-25 minute commute to Windsor with zero to minimal use of 91/84, Hubs is so much happier with his 12 minute back roads commute to Simsbury then he was when he had to drive 30 mins on 287 in NJ.

2- 30 minutes or less to Simsbury, near the library or St. Mary's....our son goes to a preschool nearby and we would love for him to go there again next year. He'll be going to public school after that, so a decent school district is needed.

3- Suburbs, 3 bedroom, 1500sq ft+, .25 acre up to .50 acre, in the range of 225k to 275k. I'm pretty handy so we're fine with something that is maybe ugly/outdated but doesn't need work to be functional.

What Towns would you recommend?

Why not live in Simsbury? Beautiful town with good schools and close to your child's daycare. I think it is surprisingly affordable. Another option would be Granby or East Granby. Jay

Having worked right off of Day Hill Rd before, you're basically talking Simsbury, Bloomfield and Granby. While I love Avon, it only 12-15 miles to Day Hill Rd, but usually 20-30 minutes due to lights, stop signs and sometimes winding roads to get to the Day Hill area. Agree with Jay - Simsbury itself is a great choice. And, while there are some million dollar+ homes in town, there are a good selection of nice ranches, capes and small colonials that are under 300k.

Simsbury is definitely on the list but I was just checking to see what other options we might have overlooked. Thank you for your replies JayCT and NewJeffCT!

Avon might work as well - however, you'd probably want to stick to the northern part of town near Route 44.
