HELL NO, not for all the tea in China would I even CONSIDER something so maddening!!

All this for just a stinking job???

NOOOO!!

I don't care how much they pay me. It won't be enough to make up for the 15-20 years that I'll lose in terms of life expectancy having stratospheric stress levels.

Literally not humanly possible. Even New Haven is a horrible NYC commute, and it's a full hour shorter.

If you're a billionaire with a private helicopter, it could work.

I would like to move out of the city and rent somewhere else and then eventually buy.

I was in Hartford recently to watch a college hockey game by taking a 2 hour bus ride from NYC to Hartford. The area seemed nice, what is it like to live there? How is the commute to NYC if I don't have a car?

I work in the financial area and it might be a possibility to find a job in Hartford eventually. Will the commute kill me?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks
If you find a job in the Hartford area, the commute won't kill you.

Not true. I did it for 3 months. I think I have told this story before. Back then I took the 5 am Bonanza Bus from Hartford. Stopped in a few towns along I-84. Got into PA at 8:15. Walked to my office. Yes, 4 hours door-to-door.

Of course there is no quality of life. I caught up with sleep on the weekends. One workday morning I couldn't get up, I was exhausted.

On the bus, another guy was doing for a year, and was going to move to Stamford. He told me of another guy who after doing this commute for 7 years, his wife divorced him.

I think the bus still operates, now under the Peter Pan brand.

Once on the train from GCT to New Haven I met a court guard who lived in Springfield, and commuted four days/ week downtown to 60 Centre Street (Courthouse).

My neighbor on the Shoreline also drove for 2 years his Suburban to Canal Street.

So yes, there are crazy stories, but OP's idea is not sustainable.

Why not rent in NY state area till a job opens up in CT for you. Many cities outside of NYC similiar to Hartford that are an easier commute to the city. Outside of the city not much in terms of hockey unless in NJ or Long Island. Only team be Danbury Whalers say Bridgeport Sound Tigers be too far. Still good college teams West Point goes up against UCONN Hockey usually in a season. There is Pace/Marist hockey. Think Albany may be a bit far, but they have a AHL league uo that way I believe.

Also have the Palisade mall and hockey arena...know other ice complexes in the area as well. A bit further up the river in Poughkeepsie have the Civic Center.

You have the train line going along the river to the city so can't go wrong with that.

Only plus in Hartford have baseball right at your door step.

You do have to travel to see a game.

Much better options and thing's to do than Hartford.
