I'm sorry, but this is ancient history. There may be racists/homophobes/xenophobes/misogynists in Darien, but they're also in Westport, Bridgeport, etc. Any organized conspiracy to keep Jews, Asians or Blacks who can afford to live in a town out of that town ended decades ago.

Darien has a history-- but the current reality of living there is far from that history. Surprise-- There are Jews in Darien now.
Yeah, all six of 'em.

All kidding aside, even if that attitude had dissipated (which it probably has), if I were Jewish I'm not sure I'd want to live in a town that had that kind of history. Sure, you have the right, but still. . .

Yes, but why live in a place where you're going to be miserable? That's just being acquiescent and will only bring more problems.

I can't imagine why anyone would be miserable in Darien. It's one of the most desirable communities in the country.

Perhaps they don't like the vibe of the town? Different strokes for different folks.

Its nice but Darien does have small beaches and a smaller downtown area than Greenwich, NC, Westport. But anyways, the point is that he and his family may be miserable based on getting the cold shoulder, and looks from people. That gentleman agreement is a real thing, still to this day, unfortunately.

I really like Darien for its location, beaches (better house for the money than Greenwich IMO, and not much farther). I don't think this day and age people would be openly judgmental towards race, but what I mean is would one get that under the surface feeling. Do residents really actively want to keep it an all white town?

The usually wealthy town snobbishness is not what I'm asking for, it's kind of a given for the kind of suburbs that we are looking at. but In particular is Darien more unwelcoming for minorities vs. Greenwich, New Cannan, Rye, etc.
It's not so much of a minority or racism issue as it was in the past. More about the ultra competitive environment. I had several friends in town, of which some were totally "miserable" growing up there, being from the Noroton Heights "wrong side of the tracks" section back in the day. Had a friend in similar New Canaan who was black and had to deal with all the "stuff". Became popular in HS starring in 3 sports. I'm in a similar affluent area of another town and I can already see this same behavior developing in the elementary school level.
You will make great friends, at the same time you'll meet some real entitled a-holes.
Good location for a NYC commute though if you can live near the train station.

Sure, Darien is desirable. It's a utopia for ice-cold people, miserable traffic, and a sense of entitlement unparalleled anywhere in this country.

But yeah, keep drinking that kool-aid. It's a 'beautiful' and 'highly desirable' town, for sure.

Well, we can't all live in sub-par 300-400k neighborhoods now can we.
