CT is among the top 3 states for Lyme disease cases, yet I rarely see or hear any efforts to fight this thing, which often can be as bad as cancer and deadly.
the forests and even lawns just filled with ticks, I took 2 off my clothing just from hiking along a trail.
Why CT folks don't care? Or is it just a state of mind here?

There's nothing you can do about it, so why worry? Just check for ticks and you'll be fine.

And what is your point. CT residents having been dealing with ticks and Lyme's since it was discovered.

The ticks are part of the eco-system. Live and learn.

This doesn't sound bad to you? Not all cancers cause immediate death, and actually have less severe symptoms than Lyme.
The "best" part there's neither 100% accurate diagnosis, nor cure.

  • Severe headaches and neck stiffness
  • Additional EM rashes on other areas of the body
  • Arthritis with severe joint pain and swelling, particularly the knees and other large joints.
  • Facial palsy (loss of muscle tone or droop on one or both sides of the face)
  • Intermittent pain in tendons, muscles, joints, and bones
  • Heart palpitations or an irregular heart beat (Lyme carditis)
  • Episodes of dizziness or shortness of breath
  • Inflammation of the brain and spinal cord
  • Nerve pain
  • Shooting pains, numbness, or tingling in the hands or feet
  • Problems with short-term memory

I try to limit my worrying to things I can actually control.

Other parts of the country refuse to recognize Lyme Disease or think it is only a problem in the northeast. Someone I know who has not left the State of Florida in 40 years had the symptoms but doctors there refused to test for it (so much for decent medical care in low cost states). The doctors insisted "It does not exist in Florida". After years of getting progressively worse and a string of battles, they finally tested her and found she did indeed have it. They treated her but by that time her quality of life had dropped significantly.

People here do care but it is a treatable disease so it does not make headlines anymore. Jay

Such a defeatist attitude....where would we be if Jonas Salk said this about polio?

Of course you can - see that's why I say no one cares. Tick feeds mostly from wild animals like deer, controlling their population would pretty much eliminate ticks.
CT gets 2000-3000 sick folks every year, which potentially can become disabled, yet everyone is silent...
