The grandiose plans of the 1980's never came to pass for Hartford. If all this stuff had been built- we would still have a high rate of empty office space into the 2020's!

Mixed retail/residential neighborhoods are the wave of the future! Has the mixed neighborhood behind the Times building been built yet? There's almost nothing new online about Adrian's Landing anymore and CCEDA - Hartford, Connecticut - Capital City Economic Development Authority has become frozen in time, except for this ominous message: "Look for a new and improved CCEDA website coming soon."

Hartford does have a good skyline for a city its size. I'm impressed with it--it has good "infill" of buildings.
As for a city with a skyline on the rise, check out Stamford! If everything proposed gets built, it will soon have a skyline similar to Hartford's.

Hartford already has a skyline that's larger than most cities its size.

I don't know of many cities the size of Hartford with the same size skyline or bigger. Possibly Columbus if you compare metro size. Columbus does have 2 large buildings in the 600 foot range.

Hartford has a larger skyline than cities 4x the size. Phoenix skyline is nothing compared to Hartford. I always wondered what Hartford's skyline would like like in the middle of the desert. The Phoenix skyline looks "big and tall" because the area is so flat. In reality they have no buildings over 500 feet while Hartford has 3 over 500 feet and 3-4 more over 400.

This reminds me of another almost Hartford had a new downtown stadium for the patriots, Hartford seems to have alot of almost buildings and sports teams that could have really made Hartford a top class city.

When all those office towers were proposed in the 80's, Hartford had the lowest vacancy rate in the country.

Most likely Hartford won't build another office tower for years to come. Residential buildings are in high demands. I believe Boston is the only city in NE where it has a skyscraper proposed. Hopefully Hartfords skyline will grow more within the next few years. But in 2015 it hasn't changed much since 2008.

The last major addition to the skyline was the 36 story Hartford 21 building in 2006. In addition to 262 apartments the building has over 100,000 square feet of office space and 57,000 square feet of retail space. That was a pretty significant addition. Given that there was a major recession since then that only now we are coming out of, it is not surprising that much has not been built in recent years. Just look at Front Street which was supposed to be much larger but the first phase only included two one-story retail buildings. The loft building under construction now will be a bit taller as will UConn's new downtown campus but still these will likely not be visible from a distance. Jay
