Darien - GCT train takes about an hr and occasionally you will need to stand all the way to GCT. You can leave from Noroton/Darien/Glenbrook train stations. There is a long wait for parking passes at Noroton/Darien and daily pass is $3 a day 5 years ago (not sure how much it is now). If you take a car to the city, just make sure you pass Stamford before 7:00am. If you leave NYC at 2:30pm you will be ok otherwise you will be looking at two hrs from NYC to CT. Commuting to Westchester in the morning is not bad if you leave early (again pass stamford before 7:00am) but expect long delays on 287w and i95 north when you return. I think you need an hr at least depending on when you leave westchester after work in the afternoon.

Edit, I did quickly check zillow and see there were total 6 houses but they are very close to 700K.

P.S. Darien schools are good but I am not sure how good they are compared against westchester schools. BTW, 95% of the school kids' mom don't work so if both of you work full time, it will be tough for your kids to attend all the activities.
I would estimate the stay at home moms at more like 60%. It is definitely prevalent- probably more so than in Westchester- but most of the younger couples with kids are dual earners, often one works in city and one more locally. Funny enough we know two couples with stay at home dads rather than moms whose wives work in the city as well.

Also, their beach is very small.
Compo Beach is great, and the Saugatuck offers great rowing. We pay the out-of-town fee for a beach pass here because our son loves it and Wilton just has a nasty pond.

That's Westport. Not Darien.

Haha, exactly.

Darien doesn't have much to offer.

Same exact stuff as Westport via something called an automobile.

Except direct waterfront and beaches, the busiest commuter railroad in the nation with two stations in town, a quaint downtown with shopping and restaurants, decent shopping along Route 1, amongst the nation's best public schools, and easy access to two major highways. But nah - not much.

Care to elaborate on what Westport offers that Darien doesn't?

Westport was recently ranked the #1 school district in the state by niche.

Levitt Pavilion, Wakeman Town Farm, Earthplace, Compo Beach, Old Mill Beach, Newman Preserves (amongst other preserves), the Playhouse, Arts center, Longshore Sailing School, Longshore golf course, and probably the best community pool on the east coast (it overlooks the Sound).

Westport has more shopping. The restaurant scene in Westport is also considered the best in the state.

You forgot the ice rink at Longshore (which we were at about 17 times this winter via automobile)
By the way, Darien has an ice rink as well.
