April 7, 2016.

I was in a cool area of Westport..

Saw this house over water. It's part of the Saugatuck River which drains into a lake called Christmas Lake.

How would you like to live here in an area we get heavy downpours and rising rivers.

Type of area I love. Who needs roads.

Part of Christmas Lake. Christmas Trees growing in it?

Undergrowth popping faster than trees normally..

Country Liquor anyone?

Comparison pic... You can CLEARLY see we are ahead this year.

Last year April 16th on left. This year on right.

Last year about 2 weeks late. This year we are normal now. (it was 2 weeks early in March but then 2 Arctic blasts haulted the progress)

April 19, 2016:

Stamford, CT

Arrived at the horse farm.. Another stunning day with low dewpoints and blue skies. Temps in the 60s. Buds are making their appearance more but no leaves yet. Stiff North wind today after the front dropped south. Gusting to 30mph.

See the Horsey?

Close up

Spoiler

I counted 5 horses total but a couple may have been hiding

A Cow Horse Hybrid? lol

My Backyard Maple Tree.

2012 was insane how green we were already. 2015 was insane how bare we were. This year is about normal now but take a look at the difference from 2012!

I forgot to grab this shot last year around same date.

April 20, 2016:

Norwalk Golf Course near the beach.

Temps in the 50s and dry as a bone....again..and blue skies.

From the beach to the hills.

Washington, CT. Mt Tom State Park. A view of NW Connecticut and into Massachusetts. Still looking wintry and bare.

That bump way back there is Mt Everett in MA. 2625' elevation. About 50 miles away

Close-up of Mt Everett

Spoiler

Tis the season for mud. No shade yet

Back down to the pond... Residents sunbath, paddle board, and swim in this pond (Mt Tom Pond) and also do Ice fishing in the winter.

I'm always surprised when people use words like "lush" to describe our area. The default state of our forests (more than half the time) is barren / dead looking. Very beautiful when their leaves are grown but that is always too brief a time. If we had more pine and less deciduous trees that would improve the situation.

I think lush should be used to describe a look in a particular season, not to describe a state. Our state is definitely lush in Summer. We are bare pretty much from November to April so even though there is an even split of bare trees and leaves ... I wouldn't describe the state as "lush".

Here is the same spot September 22, 2015
