Did the recruiter approach them and did they reply to the "counter offer"?

I still don't understand how these threads are not instantly shut down. Is the personal job search of everyone who has ever lived in Connecticut appropriate for city-data forum guidelines?

Food for thought: Just think about this that you "take your lumps now" to later get that norm salary once you get that managerial experience under your belt. You once wanted a "career change" well this opportunity will broaden your accounting experience while again later an upside of greater justified "norm" salary.
That's irrelevant. I have 8 years of experience in the field and know I can get $70K's as a STAFF in greater Hartford.

I'm still waiting for the counter offer. It's getting late though.

ALL of my professional friends and family in CT are advising me NOT to take this job, because the offer stinks really bad. I trust them more than people in these forums.. My gut is telling me to decline the offer.

except last year you got ZERO Ct interviews. ZERO.

Interviews are easier to get than offers.

That's ONLY because November, December and January are VERY slow times for hiring corporate accounting jobs. There's the holiday season, and then January is year-end close, when no one wants to do any interviewing. Also, the Hartford area is a small metro, so of course, there's not going to be many job openings to begin with. Geez.

Never new anyone who was fired from thier last job and is questioning a solid offer from a company.

Don't take it, be unemployed for 4 years and pray McDonald's will take you.

Everyone takes jobs that pay less than they hoped. They use it as a stepping ground. I did, I know for a fact I was paid less than my peers and my title was the same. Did I whine and cry, no. I used that experience to make the company a lot of money and a lot of contacts. When a job opening came available which included a 20% pay raise, who do you think they called. Experience does not have tangible value, but it is priceless.

Sorry, I didn't read the whole thread, so I apologize if this topic has already been discussed ad nauseam (I did do a quick search on the thread and didn't see too much talked about it)...the fact that your counter-offer seemed to be mostly geared at doubling the 5-day (pretty standard/reasonable) sick time would raise a red flag with me as an employer. You're basically telling the employer that you expect to call out sick frequently. If I was in their position and you weren't the absolute far-and-away best candidate for the position, I might even be inclined to rescind the offer altogether based on that.

My recommendation: In the future, ask for more vacation time, not more sick time.

nep,

In this day and age, any company with no 401k match is usually horsesh$t. I imagine high turnover at this place. That said, the pay is close to your previous pay. If it was $25k less then you have a problem when trying to go elsewhere for more money. Your pay would be verified by next employer. You could kick***** for a year, look for higher paying job then force their hand. You need to become valuable in the organization first then you have some hand in game. Other plays, accept offer then tell them a couple of days before start that you received higher offer. Puts them in a bind bc they don't want to restart hiring process. Could create bad blood in short term but again, kicking a$$ smoothes over that issue. You have to be willing to lose job though.

^^^ Yes, I agree. Having no 401K match is unheard of these days.
