My buddy, who owned a Judo club in Bridgeport back in the day, tells me the club in Stamford is the best.

FYI this guy's a 3rd degree black belt still teaching high school at age 75. If he says it's the best it is.

Oh I believe you... My late husband used to train at the one in Bridgeport on Main St. He was training and working out there when we met. Now that my daughter is old enough, I've started looking around, I even drove down to Bridgeport - only to see another business in the old space. There's a school in Hamden, but no Judo. Naugatuck, no Judo. North Haven, no Judo. Bushiban in Seymour, no Judo. One on Howe Ave Shelton, no Judo. I'm thinking for us we will have to let it go, Stamford is just too far to do as an after school activity..especially when she's already busy 3 nights a week.. and I'm not really interested in her learning how to hit or break boards, I want her to learn focus and defense not offense, so the other mixed martial art schools aren't really what I'm looking for..I like that Judo is more like the art of blocking and getting out of the way, and/or taking an opponent down while you get out of the way... It was what her daddy loved and just seems better to me.. But I guess we're out of luck..

Judo throws work best as counters, but during randori, you still have to find ways to be aggressive and attack, and force in the moves. It is not always about using your opponents strength against him.
