Yes but the taxes we put in never go anywhere or do anything.

Again, this makes no sense. Tell me that next time you or someone else here complains about highway construction. Jay

Huh? Something like 80% of our local town's budget goes to education. Another large percentage goes toward road maintenance. This is all tax dollars. I have no idea what you're talking about.

That is your city's problem. Not necessarily what other cities and towns are facing. Also how does eliminating taxes fix the problem. Less revenue, even less work on roads. Very simple concept. Jay

All of the roads I normally drive around CT are in good shape. I have fragile, light-weight wheels that bend easily upon hitting potholes and they are fine, except for the time I drove someplace I shouldn't have in Hartford (w. service rd *cough*).

You want to see some terrible roads, check out South Carolina. They have one of the lowest gas taxes in the country and it definitely shows.

More revenue is not fixing it ha think we're at 52%. Think only way real noticeable change be if the mill rate topped 80%.

Well less revenue certainly isn't. Jay

TN and florida also have low gas tax (much lower than here anyway), nothing in the way of annual property tax on cars and their roads are fantastic. Florida doesn't have to deal with snow/salt, but perpetual heat isn't easy on roads either. Also, my experience in south carolina is incongruent with yours--although I admittedly only drove on major highways (but still...)

CT roads are clean. I will give them that. I was driving through Georgia (en route to south carolina actually) and I've never seen so many blown out tires in my life. I stopped counting after 35. I guess they don't like to clean those up lol. I rarely see large roadside debris on CT highways. But with much higher taxes and far fewer miles of road I'm not sure how much of an accomplishment that is.

See so much roadside debris it's ridiculous in Waterbury. Blown my tires out a few times. Running find needles, pieces of broken city water pipe covers, contraception products, broken glass, pregnancy test, clothing, the usual nails, and so forth. Odd things crowbar and a saw.
