Let me tell you, as someone that has a diploma from SCSU after six wonderful (HA!) years there and now have nothing to show for it but deferred student loans:

Unless it's for nursing or education, a diploma from Southern is definitely not worth $10,000 a year. It's not even worth half that amount.

Hate to say, but from all the information in this comment there seems to be an x-factor and it doesn't seem to be the value per dollar of Southern's tuition.

A degree from any university does not guarantee you anything. It is what YOU do with it that counts. Too often kids come out of college expecting there to be a job waiting for them, but that is not the case. The degree allows you the opportunity to get a job, AT THE BOTTOM, and work your way up to something better. Sorry but this has ALWAYS been the way it works and it will always be that way. So instead of complaining about it, figure out where you want to go and then find a bottom rung job that will lead you that goal. Good luck, Jay

I came out with a degree in criminal justice from WCSU. Counts as a human service degree been working in social services for the past 8 year's. I mean my degree helped in keeping me employed at times.

Will agree though have a licensed skill is the golden ticket in this state with career options, but that's basically anywhere I believe.

Completely agree. I went to a small local SUNY school for undergrad. I took on a difficult program in bioscience and mathematics and excelled at that. Went into the work force and kicked &%% there as well. Then capitalized on the success of both to go to a much more well known school (UCONN) for graduate studies. In 2 weeks I will have a second job. One at one of CTs hottest labs and the other consulting for a lab at a multi-billion dollar biotech company. It all started with a no name undergrad degree and an positive attitude that won't quit. My career is doing great with what is equivalent to a SCSU degree.

Unless we are talking about the top 20-30 universities, motivation , drive and competence matter way more than legacy. Choosing rigorous coursework related to in-demand industries is also important.

The poster didn't even mention his major, field, how well he did in school or what opportunities he utilized at school. All of which are immensely important factors. Oh well.
