I can see my hummingbird feeder from where I'm sitting and so far, no action. Not that I know of anyway--I think some bright red flowers next to it might help. That's what attracted them when I used to get them. Red geraniums did it, not the hummingbird feeder. I'm in Central CT. So far, no hummers.

Actually ours never leave. Though the count can change.

Our regulars are Little Guy and Fat Boy who have been in the backyard all winter.

Just this last week they have been joined by a new one who we will call for the moment new guy.

Would not be surprised to pick up a couple more in the next weeks though Fat Boy is pretty aggressive.

We shall see...I get to oversee it all as the feeder is about 5 feet from my nose.

Are you in CT? Hummingbirds that never leave? That's unbelievable! Seriously, that's like newsworthy. The feeders freeze.

Sorry - I missed that it was a Connecticut thread. I have a daughter and grand kids in upper CN. But my bird feeder is clearly in Las Vegas. We do see freezing temps but very seldom and never for long.

I had an occasion to visit Henderson NV (A Vegas suburb) After they got 6 inches of snow. Funniest thing you ever saw. Driving was dangerous even if you were good. The locals were all over everywhere.

Probably the only time in their life most of those kids ever got to build a snowman. I pitched in with the basics of rolling up balls and stacking them.

First sighting today! Couldn't tell if it was a male or female - it didn't stay around long enough to eat. Just zoomed around the feeder, and took off. What, they didn't like my cooking? Does my neighbor brew it up stronger at her feeders?

I've had a red tailed hawk dive bombing my deck lately. I was afraid that the hawk would scare the hummers away - looked it up, and it turns out the hummers LOVE hawk-patrolled areas. Apparently, hummers are so tiny the hawks don't bother with them, but they do kill birds who would go after hummers or their nests. So hummers prefer areas with hawks around.
