Generally, many of the larger inland towns and cities have extensive protected watershed areas that deliver good tasting & high quality tap water.
For example, New Britain touts a brand new state of the art water treatment plant, has several large reservoirs and also owns water wells in Burlington, CT which is 15 miles away. The city then treats & sells the water to neighboring towns that don't have adequate supplies of their own, and their tap water has won some regional "best tasting tap water" awards as a city in its class.
So even within some towns, the water may be coming from sources & suppliers which may be different from their neighbors or from other parts of the town, depending upon the exact location.

WOW! That is so cheap! I live in Rutland, VT and we are pretty conservative with our water because it is so expensive... We are a family of 4 and we pay about $175 per quarter for water/sewer and they say to expect another increase in the near future.

I lived in Cromwell, CT up until about 7.5 years ago - the water there was awesome!

Yep, we do chlorinate the public water "more" here...but the good news is a simple and cheap charcol filter removes chlorine if that bothers you and you know it was sanitized to your tap due to the chlorine.

We just got our 3 month water bill from Aquarion for a family of 5, it was $130.00. As for it's taste, it does taste a little like chlorine, I buy Brita filters. A couple of our neighbors have water regularly delivered from Poland Springs.

Editing to say we have a septic system, so we don't have sewer fees.

KNOTTE

My water bill in NYS was high until they split the water and sewer. Sewer is now part of our taxes and the water is billed independently and it's reasonable.

Sure Poland springs tastes better, but compare that with your Brita filtered tap water (which is more regulated than bottled water) that has been chilled and there will be almost no tangible difference... and for about 2 dollars less a gallon.
CT is lucky to have some of the best protected public drinking water in the country. It is the only state that does not allow sewage treatment plants or any waster water to discharge into the sources that it uses for drinking water.

I purchase Poland Springs simply for the taste. I just like it. They are IMHO one of the "old school" spring water places that really do have a facility in Poland Springs ME and a few other choice places in the region.

The other locally owned and operated water place that is the best you can get is Crystal Rock in Watertown. They use a reverse osmosis filtration system (Which makes simply pure h20) and add back in various minerals for taste.

As for home filters one of the best on the market in my experience is Zero Water:

Zero Water (http://www.zerowater.com/technology_business.php - broken link)

ALL disolved solids (TDS) are removed. Basically afterwards is Deionized water.

I'm a clean water freak if you can't tell.

Dasani is also filtered on the reverse osmosis system and so is Aquafina.
