Hi

Looking for help/info for upcoming trip to NYC July 4th weekend for a wedding....Goin to NYC mid morning Sat July 2nd, coming back late afternoon Mon July 4th

We area party of 4 coming from western CT to go to NYC for the wedding. Amtrack from central CT will cost almost 280.00 for the 4 of us, although the parking will be free. Plus its looking to be not all train??? Possible switch to a bus? And its a definite switch in New Haven, onto metro north....metro north runs from Danbury & Brewster NY into NYC also....

Looking for an alternative plan as we dont mind driving part of the trip into perhaps Brewster. Its a straight trip into Grand Central, 28.00 R/T p/p with free parking (weekend & holidays) @ Brewster or Southwest which is just north of Brewster lot

Question is that a few people have said they prefer the Danbury option of metro north to NYC?? I am wondering why? Brewster option does not require a transfer, & has trains that leave almost every hour both inbound & outbound, & is a little shorter train ride. Brewster is only 10 -15 past Danbury with plenty of parking @ both stations...

I dont know much about Danbury option but inbound & outbound options are limited to every couple of hours, plus you have to transfer...price is a mere 1.50 cheaper for train fare...

Has anyone done both of these options? Is there something about the Danbury option I am not seeing that makes it better than Brewster?

Any info appreciated...Thank you!!

Southeast all the way for the reasons you listed. I have never taken the train from Danbury in over 10 years of living in the area.

Southeast. No need to waste money on Amtrak.

Isn't parking free on weekends?

Parking's free on weekends, and maybe in the afternoon too. I know a lot of stations have free parking after 12 or 1 PM too, and I'm pretty sure Southeast does at least it did back in 2010/11 not sure about now.

And yes, take the Harlem line from Southeast. No brainer.

When you say you live in "central Connecticut" where exactly do you mean? If you are closer to Danbury (which I consider western Connecticut) then I agree to use Metro North out of Southeast Station. But if you live in the Waterbury or Meriden areas, I would say drive down to the New Haven line stations and go Metro North from there. Most stations will have free parking that weekend. Consider stations like West Haven, Milford, Fairfield Metro Center to park at. All are safe and you get a lot of train choices. JMHO, Jay
