Some recently expressed the opinion that Mystic is "the crown jewel of Connecticut" -- maybe they're right? Mystic's Main St was chosen to represent Connecticut in this recent celebration of "Main Streets Across America":

No. Pretty much the epitome of a tourist trap. The aquarium is a joke. Mystic Pizza is glorified cardboard. What else does it have to offer...ice cream shops? Oh, and the area is complete gridlock from now until the fall. Typical overrated CT.

Best area of CT is New London County. 4 amazing waterfront areas: Niantic, New London, Mystic, and the Stonington Borough. Mystic definitely is a tourist attraction in the Summer. However, New London County has amazing restaurants and watering holes that are in and out of Mystic. Some beautiful beaches and parks. Also add in beautiful lighthouses, abortarium, a rhododendron sanctuary, the Aquarium, Outlet Mall, 2 Casinos, Olde Mystik Village, ferry to Block Island, the Seaport, and Fort Trumbull.

Surrounded by amazing independent bookstores in the area and a great independent movie theater.

Add in History.

The water again is amazing.

Cheap real estate and nice condos to buy in Mystic right on the River.

Also have Hartford and Yale Hospitals in the area.

2 beautiful private college's and the USCG Academy.

2 awesome golf courses.

With you on all of the above except for the aquarium. It's legit.

Greenwich Ave. FTW.

A nondescript tourist trap at that. I don't get the hype for that part of the state - sorry.
Fell for the Mystic Pizza tourist trap a few years, by far the worst pizza I've ever had.

I don't know what you mean by "that part of the state" but being from FFC (born and raised), I dream of owning a retirement place somewhere between Guilford and Old Saybrook.

Nice, but some on here try to make it sound like the French Riviera

The aquarium isn't on Main Street, unless they moved it since the last time I went there?

I don't think Main Street in Mystic is all that special - Madison, Old Saybrook, Deep River, Niantic and probably a town or two I'm missing in S/E CT have nice Main Streets as well. I've never been to Mystic Pizza, but I've never heard anybody say anything good about the pizza there. One, two or three people don't like it, maybe they're outliers. But, this is almost universal that people don't like the pizza.
