Agreed. The OP is click baiting for some odd reason. At least media sites do it for the money.

If this thread is based on a lie, then it needs to be shut down for moderator review.

The problem people on Section 8 have is finding apartments that meet the extremely low maximum rental allowance. A person I know could not even find an apartment in East Hartford for the maximum amount allowed. They needed a 2 bedroom apartment for about $700 per month and there weren't any that low that met the guidelines (condition, size, etc .). And East Hartford is not known for expensive rentals. I am not saying this is good or bad. I am just noting that the Section 8 guidelines are tough to meet even in lower cost towns. Jay

Why would Section 8 folks want to live in such towns where everything is expensive? Groceries, activities, shopping, etc. cannot be afforded by low income folks. Moving to lower FFC will just make them more miserable. If 1m only gets your foot in the door, and on the bottom of the food and social chain, section 8 subscribers will certainly be lost.

I don't think there's a big difference in COL in an expensive area vs. inexpensive other than housing. Safeway, Target, Old Navy, Marshalls, McDonalds, etc. generally costs the same whether you live in Greenwich or Bridgeport. Priceless benefits are.... safety, access to good schools, etc. Same reasons why anyone would want to move to a wealthy town.

True in some cases but not in others. Gas prices will be higher in Westport than Derby even they're only what, 20 minutes apart? So will things like a haircut, oil changes, and a deli sandwich. That's just from my personal experiences though - no data to back it up (except for gas prices, which the price allowance is set by zones based on income, to my knowledge).

Are you aware of the Section 8 housing that already exists in Westport?
whatever they do

I don't know about Derby, but I always find Oxford-Monroe-Newtown gas prices slightly higher than Westport, not significantly though.
A few Westport stations on the Post Rd generally have the lowest prices in the region.
