I just got an AMAZING quote from a local agent from Mapfre, but the Yelp reviews suck... but my theory on reviews is that people only post reviews to complain, not praise. So, I'd like to know if anyone local in CT has any experience with this company - who is out of Webster, MA.

Thanks!

Never heard of them but be careful what you sign. A lot of companies will give you a great quote for the first six months and jack your rates way up for the second. You may be committing to a longer term than just six months or a year. Also check the coverage amounts and the deductibles. Be sure that you are comparing apples to apples on the policies. I have found that too often if it looks to be too good to be true, it usually is. Jay

Coverage is the same (actually property damage amount is increased) and it's an annual policy. I'm more concerned about how easy they are to deal with should you have a claim - I've never filed an auto insurance or homeowners insurance claim in my entire adult life.

In CT, Mapfre is more commonly known as American Commerce Insurance Company - so look for reviews on American Commerce. They are not a bad company, just a less intuitive site and claims process as they are not as big as some of the other guys. Really, the agent is what makes all the difference, so I'd recommend checking with broker to check all options before making a decision.

Yes ... We used to have Middle Oak Insurance, but when they stopped writing policies in CT last year, our agent switched us to Mapfre. I was skeptical at first, because I had never heard of it before either and so I researched quite a bit. It's an insurance company which has been around for about 40 years headquartered in Massachusetts and has recently been expanding into other markets. I believe our auto policy is issued by its subsidiary American Commerce, and our home and umbrella policies by Mapfre itself. Overall I've been very happy.

Edit: here's some add'l info about Mapfre http://agencychecklists.com/2015/02/...england-12388/

Insurance is one thing where fine print matters more than anywhere else.
You have to get the policy and examine in detail - no way you will know off a 2-sentence-quote.
Sounds like youre making excuses for the bad reviews because youre attracted by their price.
I would go with the most reputed ones - if theyre useless the ONE time you need them, what good is a cheap rate?

I have had American Commerce Insurance Company for about 4 years. Quote is good and they were very good to work with when about 2 years ago a deer hit my car.

I had Commerce/Mapfre here in MA on my cars and home for six years and a couple of claims - one on a 3 week old car and the other a five figure homeowner's. They were great to work with and my agent was top notch. My agent said they were her highest quality line but reached out to me proactively when their rates jumped dramatically when I put my then 16 YO driver on the policy. I'm now with another company but wouldn't hesitate to use Mapfre again.

Mapfre is a Spanish insurance company with presence in many countries, mainly in Latin America and in Spain for obvious reasons. I have seen buidlings with their names in many Latin American places.

Until now I thought they didn't had a presence in the USA.

You live and you learn. lol
