I'm moving to Danbury in a few weeks. I've been told that it's better to drive over to either Brewster or Southeast Station and take Metro North from there rather than to go to Danbury Station. I tried to get a parking permit for either of those stations but was told they are unavailable and put me on a waiting list. Does anyone know how easy/hard it is to get a metered space at either station? How long do people usually stay on the waiting list? Is there an alternative parking spot I'm not aware of?

Thanks for any help you can offer!

Long commute!

I don't know specifics on permit parking but I do know that Southeast is the preferred station.

Metered parking is tough at Brewster -- I'd imagine you'd have to get there very early to find a spot. There is ample metered parking at the Southeast station, however, it's going out of the way (i.e. depending on what part of Danbury you'll be coming from, you'll have to drive about 15+ minutes northwest (depending on traffic), to get onto a southbound train. You should look into utilizing one of the park and rides in Danbury, specifically the exit 1 and exit 2 park and rides, to the Brewster station. Shuttle bus from the exit 1&2 lots to the Brewster station takes 10 minutes.

It's a long train ride -- 77 minutes is the absolute fastest you'll find.
