Hey guys, just had a car accident. I'm living in CT and i don't know the car insurance laws here, but does it make economic sense to go to insurance about this damage? I made a bad turn and bumped into a metal barrier causing a big dent in my left front/rear door and some scraps near the left rear bumper. Also the door handle got partially ripped off.

Also, can someone recommend a bodyshop in fairfield county?

I know a relative where the state sent them a bill for damages to a guard rail or some town barrier. I think they went through their insurance company not sure.

Westlund Auto body in Bridgeport, off of North Ave right across the street from the Bridgeport animal control. When I've had work done on my cars, that's where I've sent it, and they have done excellent work on it. That's what I'd recommend.

If you plan to pay out of pocket for all damages then you don't need to contact your insurance company.

Ouch. That's going to be several thousand at least. If it were, say, $1k or less, I'd pay out of pocket. For that, I'd probably go through insurance.

Just a tip, if you don't plan to go through insurance, don't even call them. They'll mark it as an "incident" and raise your rate accordingly even if you don't make a claim.
