Comparing Hartford's infrastructure to the infrastructure of Route 1 in Foxboro (at the time) is laughable. Not sure what it is like these days but I used to work at the old Sullivan stadium back in college. What an absolute nightmare getting in and out of the stadium. Parking was awful, parking lots were eroded and in complete disrepair and the staium was a gigantic wind tunnel. I can recall the drainage issues on the field too. Just a nightmare. Hartford could have easily handled the Patriots games.

I remember how parking fees at Constitution Plaza skyrocketed to the point of putting us employees along Columbus Blvd. all out on the street when supposedly the Patriots HQ would move there!

i know the thread is old but i was curious about this myself just today so i looked it up (this thread actually came up in the results) and found this article that has a pic of an artists rendering of the site..

Stadium

looks like it would have been where the convention center is now. makes sense given the size of the CC - probably no other place in Hartford could have fit something that big.

Yes, they were going to try to cram it into the site where the convention center now sits. On top of that the stadium would have had convention facilities as well. It would have been interesting had it been built. Jay

i wonder why the Rentschler Field site wasn't considered for the Patriots stadium. afterall it was supposed to double as UConn's stadium which eventually ended up in E Hartford. there were no contamination problems there and there was plenty of room for both the stadium and for parking.

Rowland wanted it in downtown Hartford for economic development reasons. Having thousands of fans downtown on game days would have been a big boost to Hartford. Out at Rentschler Field there would be no one heading into Hartford. Plus remember at that time Rentschler was still privately owned and not opened for development like it is today. Jay
