I'm trying to look around for the best places to live in the New Haven area (20 mi radius). My mother is in a not so great situation and needs to find a place to live. I happen to be month to month with my place and am willing to move in with her to get a half way decent place to live. She and I grew up in a nicer part of Seymour, and have lived in Ansonia as well. Between the two of us, we aren't looking to spend more than $1,300 and that's for a hopeful 2-3br apartment.

Any suggestions on towns that I can look into? New Haven has lots of places, but neither of us really want to live there... I work in Seymour, she works in Orange.

Seymour/Shelton I would say Milford too but it may be over your budget so stick with first 2 choices.

I agree with Seymour. It's a nice, safe town close to where both of you work.

Where do you work? I would try and stay as close to your job as possible. There are many towns within a 20 mile radius of New Haven. It all depends on where you work and what you like and dislike. The suggestions for Seymour and Milford are good but I am not sure you can afford Shelton. I would also say to consider the towns immediately surrounding New Haven: West Haven, East Have and Hamden. All three would have apartments in your price range. Not sure if these are where you want to be though. Jay

Came across a couple of clear scams on Craigslist, going to have to keep looking. Trying to avoid the cramped living style of some of the neighborhoods we've come across. Might need to up our max or take on a 3rd income.
