So are you buying or renting? If buying do you want a single family house or condo. The reason I ask is because it can make a difference. Also what kind of neighborhood do you want? Coming from Manhattan, some like Springdale and Glenbrook may seem positively rural. They are very suburban in character meaning homes on small to mid-sized lots that generally require a car to easily get around. That said downtown would be the most convenient and closest to living in a large city urban area. Provide us with more information and posters here can help you find the best neighborhood for your family. Jay

Speaking of private Catholic schools, they are going to be consolidated into one Pre-K to 8th grade school. 9 to 12 will continue at Trinity Catholic High School.

I understand that Catholic schools across the state are going to be doing the same thing. The Bishop of the Hartford Diocese announced that there could be similar actions taken as well. I am not sure how good an idea this is however. One of the major reasons parents send their children to Catholic schools is the small size and community feel. One school serving an entire city the size of Stamford removes that feel since the school will likely be as large as a public school now, maybe bigger. Jay

This has already started. Bridgeport combined their schools like 2 and a half/three years ago.

Unfortunately we may see even more. The Stamford schools discussed in the article are part of the Bridgeport Diocese as are the Bridgeport schools. The article mentions an announcement on the fate of Catholic schools in Shelton, Monroe and Brookfield being announced today and tomorrow. Will see what that brings. Jay

From todays Stamford Advocate

The bishop of the Bridgeport Diocese presented his plans to parents Wednesday night for four of the five parochial schools in Stamford to become one pre-K to eighth-grade flagship institution this fall. The move is expected to significantly help the financially struggling diocese, but result in larger class sizes and potential staffing cuts.

Stamford has a sizeable Indian community. I don't know if they cluster more in some parts of town, but I definitely see quite a few (in fact, whole families) every evening people watching at Daskam Park in downtown and also many congregate on the lawn of the fish church on Broad Street. This is mainly during the warmer parts of the year, obviously.

Many Indians work in Stamford as professionals and also many own businesses, but I have no way of knowing what the trend is in that community. If anything, the safest thing to assume is that a large percentage work in NYC, others in nearby Westchester County, others still in Stamford and vicinity.

Continuing to work in NYC I presume?

If you want active, walkable, etc. go with downtown. Harbor Point has some nice apartments but it’s not really a vibrant area.

As mentioned Springdale is nice, but will be closer to a quaint village compared to what you’re accustomed to.

You didn’t mention budget, renting or buying, condo/apartment or house. There are lively coastal towns like Westport and Fairfield that are worth considering. Longer commute, but you won’t need private school.

South Norwalk is worth considering too. Smaller than downtown Stamford but more interesting and more character IMO. Only about 12 minutes longer on train. Norwalk has interesting coastal neighborhoods like Rowayton and Marvin Beach too.

Edit: just realized this thread is quite old, but maybe the above will prove helpful to someone else
