One thing I noticed alot when i moved south was everyone in the south uses yes mam no mam no sir and so on. Really shows respect and when compared to the kids in northern states when you call there names they answer "what" compared to kids here in the south when you call them they answer yes sir...

I used to live in South Windsor and had some super friendly neighbors, I think your over-generalizing the locals from a few bad experiences that you had. However, I agree that CT can be a bit dull; the lack of entertainment and reserved (unfriendly) nature of some people does get old after a while.

A lack of sunlight can make people depressed, so I wonder if that is part of the reason why people up north seem to be grouchier than people in the south.

Not sure why people assume the OP must live in FFC. From what I have noticed, it's the people in lower class towns who lack manners way more than the wealthier towns...

Yes. That has been my experience in many areas of the Midwest too. Based upon the way I am treated and viewed in many places out here, you'd think I was a Martian in HG Wells book the "War of the Worlds."

All I can say is that visiting vs. living in the Midwest are two different animals. Yes, some places are OK and you will find friendly people in some areas. But in many others you will find the opposite filled with parochial, paranoid people that don't like outsiders at all. Not only will you not have a job you will not have any friends either. At least in New England, outsiders will find work in most cases and eventually will make friends if they stick around long enough.

Nothing like in Milford where I live. People are very friendly.

The Danbury area was less friendly. Maybe because a lot of NY'ers move there to be AWAY from people.

I think that's part of it. Probably not a coincidence that people in the south are noted for their friendliness and people in California are known for being laid back. Or that people in Seattle have a reputation for being depressives.

We get as much sunlight as the south..we don't live off the Great Lakes. Nothing to do with it. In fact people are more apt to get mean and ornery when its HOT out.

Just like the north, there is a wide variance of sunshine in the south. We get as much as Nashville but not nearly as much as Miami or Tampa. Hartford 120th in the US? I wouldn't call that sun splashed.
