UCONN basketball fans, how long do you give Kevin Ollie as the coach of UCONN? Barring an AAC tournament run, UCONN will not be invited to the NCAAs for the 2nd time in 3 years, and the last time they were in it, they got blown out by Kansas. If the team does not improve next year, how many more seasons do you give Kevin Ollie before the university has to fire him?

He won a national championship in his second year as HC. He's not getting fired anytime soon.

They have been decimated by injuries this year. That has nothing to do with the coach. That being said, if they have another bad year next year, he could be in trouble.

I believe the state's highest paid employee only has a couple of years left on the contract, so they will probably let it play out

Forget the NCAA's at this point! They aren't beating BOTH Cincinnati & SMU, even at "home" in Hartford they'll be lucky to beat 1, and they'll likely have to go through both. At this rate I just want them to qualify for the NIT and win 1 or 2 games in the NIT......however they need to win 3 games in the AAC tournament to qualify for the NIT as you need to finish .500 or better and they are currently 14-16 and add on 1 loss to SMU in the finals. They'll win their first game for sure vs. USF so take them to 15-16. Game 2 will be vs. Houston. They've already lost twice to Houston, so odds say you are due for a win....however Houston is fighting for an NCAA bid and a loss to the under .500 Huskies likely eliminates them from that discussion (and could very well eliminate the Huskies from the NIT as well). IF they get through Houston (which I don't think they will) stick a fork in them! Up next is Cincinnati a team they are also 0-2 against so odds say you'd be due again, except neither of those games were close: Cincinnati won by 14 in Cincinnati and by 20 last weekend in Hartford, so they are done. At least 1 of the 2 games UConn lost to Houston was by 5 and their other loss was pre new years when they were really struggling.

Ollie's championship did come with Calhoun's players but for sure he gets another year and likely multiple years.

Even if they do beat Houston, with the way SMU has been playing, UCONN may lose like 90-58. The pressure is on Ollie next season, as UCONN has shown they are willing to fire a coach (Diaco a few months ago).

Injuries are the problem this season. And bear in mind the candidates that UConn can recruit in a conference like the AAC won't be on the same level as the Big East. With that in mind, it will be a more difficult challenge for any of the AAC teams to compete for a national championship in the Men's division.

Long term they have to get the heck outta the AAC. It will destroy the program. Not Ollie's fault.

Best case scenario for sports in CT over the next 3 years? Whalers return. Uconn joins the Big East.

UConn is more likely to go independent than they are going back to the Big East which at this point is all catholic schools, so that ship sailed. I still think they'll end up in the Big 12. Gives West Virginia a "close proximity" neighbor and I put close in quotes seeing as their closest school currently is probably 1,000 miles away out in Iowa. Expands the Big 12 footprint into the Northeast and potential grabbing New York City a hot bed for basketball. And with only 10 teams currently you really can't have a true championship game, but with 12 teams (adding BYU or another team) and suddenly you have 12 teams can have 2 divisions of 6 teams, and all of a sudden now you can have a true championship game.

It makes the most sense. If UConn were to rejoin the Big East for Basketball, one has to wonder what happens to the Football program. Virtually impossible for them to survive as an Independent these days and joining a lesser conference like the MAC would probably be a step backward from the AAC. Adding Cincinnati and UConn would give West VA a chance to rekindle the old rivalries and also help with travel costs for their teams.
