Howdy all,

Anyone recommend a security company that works with video surveillance in central CT? Potential DIY project for me as well if anyone knowledgeable in this topic...

Buddy of mine is relocating his business and gave me 3 night owl cameras for free. Unfortunately he needs his hard drive and the cables were run through walls, thus I only have the cameras themselves. Looking to install inside of home. I already own a wireless motion-sensored Zmodo (HIGHLY recommended) for the front door/stoop/driveway. Unfortunately these night owls don't provide the same ease-of-install for uneducated fella like myself.

Relevant variables below

Hardware:
-3 night owl cameras (has short white and red cable coming off, ostensibly to connect with longer running cables to connect server)

Intended setup:
1 each in
-basement
-first floor
-second floor

Floorplan:
-NOT a smart house (built in 1986)
-basement has drop down ceiling
-first and second floor contain no conduits I'm aware of and main area is vaulted open ceiling (second floor hall oversees living room) so no where to easily hide

Questions:
-do I need special hard drive or any drive good if I install software?
-does night owl have ability to convert these to wifi?
-how typically deal with wired install aesthetics?-servers for each floor?
-how much does professional install like this cost in area?
-any other advise?

If I were you, I'd throw the cameras in the trash. You don't need a "hard drive". You need the multi-channel DVR that goes with those proprietary cameras. Anybody who comes to your house is going to want a minimum $500 labor charge to deal with you plus that DVR and all the materials. You can buy a four wireless IR camera kit for way less than that and install it yourself.

Agree with the trash comment. lol

I have MyDlink cameras all over. Wireless. Easy setup and accessed away from home via app or website. It detects motions and saves to the Microchip. You can also do video or interval captures with them. Pan, tilt, zoom, widescreen options.. It also has 2 way audio. Just plug in camera, configure, and you're done. No wires needed. (You do need an outlet near the camera though)

Ha, thanks guys. Saved me hours of googling time and money. Both of which I don't enjoy wasting. Will just add to the wifi system I have.

Just buy a shotgun and put a "Violators will be shot. Survivors will be shot again" sign near the front door . All done. That'll scare them away.
