Hello
My husband and I have decided to move to CT ( via Florida and previously Long Island) so that I can be closer to my elderly parents who have health issues. I grew up around New Haven, but never really lived in the state as an adult.

We have secured employment approximately 45 to a hour from my parents. That distance is ok for me question..
Where to live?
He is in Norwhich and I have secured a great job in East haddam.we are older, 55 and 61 and we are trying to rent.( we own a home in Naples Fl.)
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Yasadora

What are you looking to rent- a single family home or a condo or apartment ?

Norwich itself will you options for any of the three above. It would be about a half hour to forty minute drive over to East Haddam depending on where in Norwich you would live and where in East Haddam you would work.

Between Norwich & East Haddam are a handful of towns small in population. Rentals would be single family homes.

You might also consider the town of Colchester where you could find a small number of single family homes and possibly a few condos to rent. There are also a few apartments in the town. Lovely town with basic amenities and would put you somewhat in between Norwich and East Haddam. Colchester is adjacent to East Haddam ( both sprawling towns in terms of area) and a couple of towns away from Norwich.

Driving around the area is easy- East Haddam to Norwich via CT Rt 82- two lane back road or Norwich to Colchester via Ct Rt 2- ( no traffic ), then into East Haddam via local roads.

We would need a bit more information like the type of community you would like (rural, suburban or urban), your budget and what you expect to get for it.

Are your parents in the New Haven area? You might then want to consider a town that would be closer to them but still commutable to East Haddam and Norwich. Maybe a shoreline town like Old Saybrook, Westbrook or Lyme/Old Lyme. Your husband can commute up I-95/I-395 to Norwich and you on Route 9 to East Haddam. Just a thought.

Between Norwich and East Haddam is Salem which is a nice small town. There is also Montville which is directly south of Norwich but a bit further from East Haddam. Even East Lyme and Waterford might work. It all depends how far you want to be from your jobs, the type of community you want and your budget. Jay

For ease of commuting Salem and Colchester would work well. It really depends on how long of a commute you want. As hinted above most of the roads are rural 2 lane roads so some care is needed in the winter but traffic will rarely be an issue.

If I remember correctly, Salem is the nicest town in that general area.
