Does anyone know of a private school with a non full day kindergarten program? I don't want my child in full day kindergarten and am also considering homeschooling to avoid it since I can't even find a private school with the option. I've researched the pros and cons and strongly believe a full day of school is not right for my individual child at age 5, but I do not want to hold her back a year since she is very smart.

Homeschool may be the only option you have. I don't know of any public school that still does half day at this point, and the private schools I know of (and my kids attended) went full day before even the public schools did.

Good luck.

There are a bunch of half day programs in the Waterbury area, but I don't know of any further south/west.

Westport and Weston may still have half day. I know that when Wilton went to full day K a few years ago there was an option to do half day if the parents so requested. The rub was that the parent would have to pick the child up at school, as they would not have a half day bus run in the afternoon. I don't know if it is still an option.
Almost all of the pre-schools in Wilton have a 5's program for kids that are not quite ready for kindergarten. I don't know about other towns, but I imagine this option is available elsewhere. But it could be an option.

That's too bad. I guess I'll start seriously researching homeschooling. I know a lot of parents prefer full day, but it sucks there are no options for those of us who want our kids to have more free time for play at that age.
