No. GeoffD has convincingly poured cold water on that idea just upthread.

GeoffD also gave reasons why Aetna may leave Hartford. Today, CVS CFO gave reasons why they would not leave Hartford, and alluded to the idea that they will actually bring jobs to the Hartford campus.

Let’s not be so matter of fact in our speculations.

It is prudent for a health insurer to maintain a presence in central CT. The major brand names all have concentrations of employees here. UConn and WPI have strong actuarial science programs. CT offers a good quality of life/value for the money for people who are well compensated.

I could see CVS moving to Hartford. That would be a huge, HUUGGE, boost for the city.

Insurance, Hartford. Match made in Heaven.

It would be nice but I don't see that happening. The accounts I see said CVS Health would continue to be based in RI so I think it is unlikely that they will move here. Still it would be nice. Jay

So you're say if workers leave Hartford after the workday (as they always do), it won't benefit the city? If more jobs leave, then would there be no impact?

It would benefit Hartford. These workers will pay local and state taxes and having a strong corporate presence in the city has its advantages. If they're working in the city, then it boosts local businesses. It's a cycle that benefits everyone.

Except that this is not true. There are a lot of people that live in downtown Hartford now and more coming every day. There are people patronizing the restaurants and entertainment venues there every night. It is not New York but it is not completely dead either and hasn't been for years now. Jay
