What is so different about those areas which the crime would be so much higher in Danbury?

I've not visited either of those areas yet, so I thought I would ask first for people who live near there and are familiar with it.
eastcoastguyz,

There is something else I would like to point out. I live in Trumbull and we have a mall. While Trumbull is generally a safe town the stats look worse because there is always more crime at malls and big shopping areas. Danbury has a mall too.

I live in the Danbury area - it's not even close to "hip"

Are there places to hear live music? I mean with live musicians, not DJs blasting music.

Lots of bars with cover bands. Not much of a music scene per se.

Better off going to places like the Fairfield Theater Company venues, the Outer Space complex in Hamden, or several venues in NHV (Cafe Nine, College Street Music Hall, Toad's, Stella Blues, Firehouse 12, Woolsey Hall for classical).

Danbury is a city and it is literally a melting pot. Good food, good culture! That's what makes it hip
