Very true..I guess its a lot easier to do longer term forecasting in places that are not always so close to where the jet runs. For instance upper midwest area where they are always north of the jet. As for forecasting its fun to do what you do , throw us models and what they say for long term. Most of us are smart enough to take it with a grain of salt knowing it will change. The problem is these idiot forecasters who go and throw it to the masses who cannot seemingly digest the fact its a POSSIBILITY.

So I couldnt understand why I been feeding the stove like its winter. I didnt know if i just forgot I usually do this in November. So I checked the latest temps...

Sure enough... normal max is mid 50s and we cant pass 40s. Normal low is 40 and we're dropping below. Its been below normal past 5 days...no wonder why im burning so much wood.

we went from June like temps beginning of month to December like.

It's freeeeezing! The Weather Channel is saying it will be 30 tonight. At least the sun is supposed to be out tomorrow--that helps. I wouldn't want to live in Florida but I don't think we had a chance to adjust to this sudden cold.

Hey Cambium, remember the Almanac that you bought and soon after you posted its photo, and then I bought one too?

It says exactly what has happened was going to happen. Warmer than normal October and colder than normal November.

I'm amazed by that!

There's been some crazy calls in there over the years. I think they have like 55% accuracy? and considering its so far into the future that's pretty darn good. But keep in mind, a lot of it is general sayings but I don't blame them. You cant get detailed for the future. But to say that for October and November that was cool.

You're right, we didn't have a chance but I'm starting to now. Low of 30° here this morning.

1026 High Pressure over us. Stars were so bright last night. Heat escaped into space so easily...

Heavier frost this morning

Close up

7am Temps. Looks like 20s north of the Merritt. That 41 is the new Manhattan station.

Check out BDL last 8 days. Below normal.

  • The 38° Max temp Nov 11th was 16 below normal.
  • Low temps were 11-16 below normal 4 days in a row
  • Normal max 52. Normal low 34.
  • Looks like snowflakes fell on 7th, 8th, and yesterday. Little or Nothing stuck.

Time to get the driveway stakes in the ground before it gets to hard. These past few days of cold have really kicked in that "winter feeling". Usually this time of year I have the programmed heat on and its down to low 60's in the day and up at night. I've been keeping the house at 65 steady, no sign of that changing anytime. Fall came and went quick but I'm actually OK with winter and hope we get a few good dumpings of the white stuff.

Good reminder. Thanks!

I knew I was using more wood than I ever remember. In fact nobody younger than 41 yrs old experienced a cold 2nd week of November like this.

In fact....... 2nd coldest for Hartford. Only once since 1905 was colder for the period.
