Wish I had more time to update! Sorry guys.

This beast is so close to giving us a foot!

*HIGH END AMOUNT ONLY* Not what's likely..

This is most likely but don't be surprised if they raise or lower it tonight.

What a beast is exactly right! Is it going to be slow moving regardless how far north it comes? All day constant rates instead of a 3-4 hour dumping?

Models continue to be in decent agreement with the polar jet
digging down into the SE US Wednesday, following a strong
shortwave/jet streak diving south from the Canadian Plains, and
interacting with a separate vigorous shortwave diving through
the southern plains. Although there is good agreement in the
mass fields, subtle differences in the timing/location of
phasing of the above shortwave energies as they round the base
of the digging trough, as well as the interaction of the polar
trough with the second shortwave (determining trough tilt), will
be key in track/timing of an explosively developing northward
moving southern low on Thursday.

At the Surface, low pressure develops off the Florida peninsula
and tracks towards Nova Scotia while rapidly intensifying

through Thursday. While some strength and track differences
remain, there continues to be growing consensus amongst the
models, taking the low near or just east of the 40/70 benchmark
Thursday afternoon
. Overall, it appears it will be cold enough
for an all snow event with the best chance of 6 or more inches
of snow across eastern portions of Long Island and Connecticut.

Main question is what kind of shift in the track this storm
takes. Any shift to the west, would mean heavier snow for more
of the CWA. A shift to the east would mean less snow. This will
need to be watched over the next few model runs.

The other potential hazard with this storm will be strong
winds, forecast model blend is pointing to the potential for 30
to 40 mph winds along the coast Thu aft/eve. There is potential
for 45-50 mph gusts for eastern coastal areas
, if closer NAM
track and stronger NAM wind field verifies. This would also lead
to blowing and drifting snow along with reduced visibility
issues.

Latest WSW issued by NWS for eastern MA & RI mentions 8 - 12" potential. Up from 5 - 7" in the WSW statement issued earlier today.

Any word on the timing of this storm? Think it'll impact the morning commute?

Yes. Starts Thursday morning before Sunrise. Probably after midnight Wednesday night. Continues all day. Ends late Thursday evening.

Roads will be bad because of temps. If 1-2" was bad I don't see anyone being able to use them with 3-6"!

Then add wind to the equation and blowing all that powder around.

For all the excitement, snowfall totals for most of CT don't seem too nuts. That being said, given that much of central CT has a shot at 6 inches, NWS NYC seems a bit slow in issuing statements! I think the real story will be the wind and cold following the departing low.

That stinks plan to get a run in the morning before the cold weather comes in and snow tires in the afternoon that day. Have to play it by ear.
