agree.

They actually get tons of sun from Mat to September...then little in the fall and winter.

Of course I have a hunch we may be well below our 2600 hour pace this year. Along with all the rain has come a LOT of clouds.

VERY easy identification of invasive Norway Maples these past few days. I say this because it is very difficult to distinguish them if you don't have easy access to a leaf.

Norway Maple on left, Sugar Maple on right. Notice how big and green the Norway Maple leaf is. This is the primary distinguishing factor so far, and then from there you can progress to the secondary identification.

Secondary identification / check involves taking a leaf off. Kinda out of luck if nothing is close to the ground. But if there are leaves close to the ground, pluck them off all the way to the stem base. Might be hard to see in this image, but the end of the Norway Maple leaf has a white, milkish look. That's the key distinguisher.

Putting a marker tape on these ones. Not removing at the moment, but will definitely try and target seeds that germinate near it.

Through Oct 29th, 2018. Bridgeport, CT Number of Days with Max temps in the

0s: 0
10s: 2
20s: 7
30s: 21
40s: 49
50s: 42
60s: 44
70s: 60
80s: 64
90s: 13
100s: 0

  • More 80s than any others. More 40s than 60s
  • Only 1 day of 70+ in April then in May we had 8 days in the 80s.
  • Only 5 days in the 60s in September. Then in October only 3 days between 62-68°.
Goes to show we didn't experience many days in the 60s this fall! Who knows how many have been sunny and 60s. I assume not many.

Check out White Plains!! Even less 60s since they aren't at the coast.

Having the coldest 2nd half of October since 2002..

Hartford (44.8°) 3rd coldest
Bridgeport (49.2°) 8th coldest

NYC & Philly Too

Look at the trend past couple decades. It's been a long time since feeling this kind of chill for 2nd half of October. (Interesting trend for NYC though -Flat)

……....…..I think I'm too far north and have too much elevation here at the Lodge for maples, but down in Littleton NH I have a small suger bush with the Sugar Maples.Sweet heaven.
