Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service New York NY
1050 PM EST Thu Feb 7 2019

Forecast uncertainty is greatly reduced for Tuesday into Wednesday.
The next trough should be moving out of the western states Tuesday
which aids in the development of low pressure across the Central
states. Significant height rises ahead of this system support a
parent low track well to our west, but there are some hints at weak
secondary low development along the Middle Atlantic coast late
Tuesday or Wednesday. The antecedent air mass ahead of this system
late Tuesday/Tuesday night may allow for any precip at the onset to
be snow, but should see a change to liquid at the coast on
Wednesday, once the main system tracks to our west. Further from the
coast, it may remain cold enough for an all snow event. However, the
timing of these occurrences and changes in PTYPE is still in
question. Systems in the extended have trended warmer for much of
this winter and it is quite possible we are already seeing signs of
this occurring in the latest model runs.
High pressure builds back
into the region for the end of the week.

Rain on Feb 6, 7, & 8th.

Update: My backyard since November 1st.

Days with Rain falling: 31
Days with snow falling: 19
Days with over 1" snowfall: 1

A look at the Pattern looks like the atmosphere moisture once again has a connection to the Pacific. Too much warmth at 5000 feet for us! Need that South East Ridge to push south more so the Jet stream can dip south of us and keep us in the cold. Problem is, moisture will be south of us .That's what's been happening all winter.

We need to cut off that Pacific flow! Did you see Seattle?? Normal is 49° and they haven't passed mid 30s since Feb 3rd!! and they are getting more snow again. Memorable February for them

Not much time on my end to analyze and post but there are 2 Snow events coming.

Sunday night-Monday morning is Light... Nothing to worry about!

Tuesday I took off to spend time with you guys. lol

GFS says heavy snow Tuesday morning, changes to rain Tuesday afternoon

Canadian says heavy snow Tuesday afternoon and evening then changes to rain Tuesday night.

Quick summary.. There is a storm that will go from Southern Plains towards Great Lakes (NEVER a great track for us). But what happens is a new coastal storm will form. So cold air will stay in place for us but the track of both these storms will determine what we get!!

Need that Great Lakes storm to shift East more so not a lot of warmth comes up but not too far east because it can kick the coastal storm out too far.

Details. Details.

Hoping Winter is on break till next season. Have class Tuesday and Thursday. Have plans next Saturday. Can show heavy Monday, Wednesday, and Friday but let's hope skips those 3 other days.

Always get a big one in February. Around this time last year we get what 18 to 20 inch snow storm.

Euro12z for Danbury, CT. No surprise Winter continues. Mid level temps increase above freezing during event, BUT... looks like heavy snow could happen Tuesday Afternoon/Evening. Then changeover TBD

I'm with you. Tuesday is the only day I teach, and nobody wants to see me driving in the snow.
