A look at June temp departures since 2008. We really haven't had a hot June in the Northeast since 2013 and it wasn't that bad. 2010 was hot, 2009 was cold. 2019 is below normal so far

Bridgeport June Avg Temp Departure

2008: +3.5
2009: -3.1
2010: +3.1
2011: +0.8
2012: +1.0
2013: +1.3
2014: +0.8
2015: -0.3
2016: +1.7
2017: +2.3
2018: +0.1
2019: -0.5

After I put that together I noticed 2017. If you look at the map above it only shows 1-2 above normal for the area.

You can look at the "dots" to see each location. Apparently BDR was alone in being 2+ above normal. There's a site in Litchfield that was too. But overall the area was only 1-2 above. Not 2-3 like BDR.

Interesting post this morning on OKX's Facebook page. I believe Newark Airport is the only one of their 6 stations to have hit 90+ yet. Note how "late" the record for BDR is (the water influence I'm sure, and yeah 2009 was a pretty cold summer until August):

As of yesterday, Central Park is running exactly 1 degree below normal. It has yet to see a 90 degree day this year. As we near the end of June and the beginning of July, you may wonder, what's the latest Central Park has gone before hitting 90? The answer: 7/26, way back in 1877! That's right, we're still about a month away before we start thinking about breaking this record. Here are the latest first 90 degree days for our other climate sites (Newark already hit 90 this year on 5/26):

NYC: 7/26/1877
LGA: 7/21/1978
JFK: 7/30/2009
EWR: 7/2/1972
ISP: 9/4/1985
BDR: 8/17/2009

A note about Central Park's record, I have read that some have questioned it (i.e. old instrumentation, so that a prior "89" that year might have really been 90, etc.), particularly since their "#2" on this stat is much earlier and much more recent (7/14/1985, the same year of Islip's incredible (again probably due to ocean influence much like BDR) record on this).

Also, 2009 was one of only 7 Julys (in 150 years of record) that Central Park did not reach 90 (however, they did have 2 such days in April that year, weird and as you can see above JFK had one despite being on the water). What makes that stat more interesting is that 3 of the 7 Julys were before 1890 but the other 4 all occurred after 1995 (1996, 2000, 2004 and 2009).

Note that this also means that for all 6 sites, there has never been a year without at least one 90+ degree day (record in Central Park using their long record is one, in 1902, though 2004 had just two of them).

2016 & 2017 looked hot. So far so good staying under 81!

The forecast next 5 days............. I don't mind now. I have a switch inside me where I mind clouds and rain in Spring, then come June & Summer I don't mind.
Its an La Nina weather pattern year, i.e. more precipitation which naturally means cooler weather. Look all over the U.S., more rain/snowfall. Colorado mountains got two feet of snow yesterday. Southern California ski resorts will be open this year into August!

Front and rain move in tomorrow night. I hope nothing severe. Wanna see why I despise Thunderstorms? Click

No 90s yet! These 80s and full sun are a reminder how hot summer gets in CT. Thankfully its not humid. Gees

Love

Love these bright sunny warm mornings!

Danbury 59°. Bridgeport 67°. I'm usually in the middle of the two. My station says 63. Meanwhile I saw 30s in Maine this morning.

I don't see rain on the radar yet so enjoy another great day! Humidity should be on the increase. Rain tonight I think

I hope you're right about that. I get the sense I'm one of the few on this forum who enjoys cooler, cloudy days in summer!
