I took a ride around town and there were some really big trees down, parts of the town without power and plenty of closed/blocked roads causing traffic reroutes. I wish there was more or better coverage, I tuned to the Weather Channel for info because the World Series was blocking the local channel 10pm news. To me that was a pretty serious event, had a gust at my house register almost 70mph around 12/1230.
Why is the word bust being mentioned even? They called this very well.

I had a bunch of coworkers getting ready in the office bathrooms since they had no power at home. Last nights storm was way worse than Irene in terms of constant sustained winds and damage in the area (I live east of the river). It was loud enough for hours that my house didn’t sleep well.

I know it’s easy to dismiss a weather event that doesn’t affect you personally as all hype, but it was and still is pretty rough for some of us.
lol. I knew there would be a post like that. Overall, no big deal. Some power outages, worse in some areas than others. No Sandy. No Perfect Storm like some folks were hyping this "BIG" storm to be. It was a typical Fall storm we all should be used to. Wind gusts were only bad for couple hours!

Hartford had gusts over 30mph for just 3 hours.

I was just at the beach in Milford, no flooding on roads or at the usual flooded areas near the water. Few branches down and that's it. Couple of rotted trees.

Next time we see a map of reds with 4"+ rains and 30mph+ winds, lets relax a bit (not you Mels)

The sound was choppy.

Only 10% of CT without power. It's only 12hrs after the storm hit. Lets check back on this in 2 days.

I know a lot of areas in CT that they haven't cleared trees and branches away from wires. I'm guessing those are the areas that got majority of the power outages. It's not like the winds on its own knocked down wires and poles. Sometimes the heavy rain affects the transformer but not usual.

I'll update the rain and wind totals later on

This didn’t seem to be a “typical fall storm we should all be used to”. Trees were down everywhere. Hundreds of thousands without power. Schools and businesses closed. That’s not “typical” of even a stronger than normal nor’easter.

Can't say I noticed much of anything. Power flickered a couple times during the night (Prospect), the wind woke me up at 1230 from how heavy it was blowing, and late in the evening 2000 or 2100 it sounded like there were waves out my window. It was extraordinary but didn't seem to be anything groundbreaking.

Eversource is telling town managers to expect a 1 to 3 day power restoration period.

I have a generator --- but simply unacceptable. A lot of folks made it through the storm unscathed only to lose power midday today and potentially multiple days from something Eversource caused while working on the lines.

That's nuts. Wonder if its the process with the tree cutting and wire replacing or just a part needed they don't have. Maybe a pole needs to be replaced? That's unacceptable and just unlucky.

October 29, 2017 Storm Reports...

CoCoRaHS stations sorted by highest total. Monroe wins.. WOW!

From all NWS reports... Wow for New Hartford! Widespread 3-5" rainstorm

Max wind gust reports. Some WOW's in here. Luckily it wasn't for a prolonged period..

Rainfall estimated per radar only (not actuals but gives an idea where the heaviest fell and how the moisture was moving)

Lastly, a loop of the storm.. 6pm to 6am. Watch it go from off NJ coast to Northern NY with a pressure drop of 16mb

3 big factors

1. The speed of the storm... Had it been slower with all those rains I think more damage would of occurred.

2. Where it strengthened/bombed out. Had it happened much south more, we would of had more damage & power outages.

3. Rivers were low to begin with so that helped too for areas near rivers...

Lot's of factors helped not make this a "big widespread" historic storm. Be grateful for that.
