No Strike date has been set but it something to watch. Metro North strike would put numerous commuters in FFC and New Haven to standstill and I-95 traffic would be parking lot.

Metro-North’s biggest labor union threatens to strike and bring the railroad to a screeching halt, Connecticut officials are bracing for a commuting nightmare that would leave hundreds of thousands of passengers scrambling to get to work.
“A strike would cause gridlock unlike anything we have seen,” said Jim Gildea, chairman of the Connecticut Commuter Railroad Council.

I95 traffic is already a parking lot.

"Other complaints include firing employees based on security camera images and hiring applicants from outside Metro-North instead of giving preference to in-house workers capable of doing the job."

I imagine employees being fired based on security images are doing something in the images worth firing over? Sounds ridiculous to complain about this. And hiring outside the employee pool also sounds like a sound business practice in certain situations. I support unions, but these really sound like absurd complaints.

Unfortunately this labour union knows it has Fairfield and southern New Haven county by the you know whats. They can basically do whatever they want, otherwise they'd cripple Westchester and Fairfield counties.

Except that it is illegal for them to strike. They have to go through federal arbitration which should resolve most if not all of these minor issues. Jay

Do a Ronnie with the air traffic controllers. Fire & replace. "Conductor" is not a high skill job. "Locomotive Engineer" mostly requires you don't show up drunk or stoned and keep your smartphone in your pocket. CDL and a Federal Railway Administration cert.

While I am sure this is the most likely scenario, doesn't totally rule out them striking. Would be interesting to see how it would play out if they did. A smaller scale version of 1981.

The union doesn't have anything by the you know whats. They would have their you know whats kicked in and removed if they ever went through with something so trivial from the public firestorm it would create.

Doesn't mean they do not actually have the power to try and leverage it to get... whatever the hell they want out of this ordeal.

Employees who illegally strike will get an unemployment check. The article explains the details after the pot stirring part.
