Westville, Downtown and East Rock are not only some of the nicest and safest in New Haven, but some of the nicest and safest neighborhoods in ANY Connecticut urban area. While some areas like Fair Haven and Newhallville are plagued with high crime rates, serious crime rates are below average for urban areas in Westville, East Rock and Downtown.

If low crime rates are your #1 priority however, statistically, you'll be better off in most suburbs, however I know many residents in many areas of the city that have never been victimized by crime in years of living in the city.

Westville is the nicest, safest part of New Haven. The thing with New Haven is there are some neighborhoods that are pretty and clean but are loaded with violent crime. Westville however is just plain nice
