Hi all. I live in Glastonbury and my kid starts school in a couple years (with or without the redistricting starting in 2018-2019 school year he is in Buttonball school district). My question is what time does the elementary school day start and end? We have observed what times the school buses stop near my house, but trying to determine if it would be possible to do drop off and pick up at the school instead of the bus for his first year. Would also be interesting to get an idea of how long his bus ride would be. Thanks!

I wouldn't expect that what holds true today will be true in a couple of years. For instance, the past 2 years I have watched a bus drop off kids at 4:45pm. Today it was 4:20pm. Same kids, same school. Route may have changed? No idea.

I believe elementary schools in Glastonbury start at 8:25. I used to drop my kids off around 8:00 AM and then head to work. As WouldLoveTo noted that could change but I believe the start time has been the same for years now. Jay

My wife just mentioned that with the redistricting, the bus routes will certainly change. Also, there are both early and late elementary schools. I'm not sure why... maybe they make use of the same buses for multiple routes?

Glastonbury is one of the few towns that runs their own buses. They were never stupid enough to go to a large private company that does not provide the service very well. In my experience they do an excellent job and are very responsive to parents and problems.

The town does have the start times of different schools staggered in order to maximize the efficiency of the school bus system. Glastonbury High starts first at 7:25 AM, followed by Gideon Welles and Smith Middle schools at 7:55 AM. Naubuc, Buttonball and Hopewell Schools start at 8:25 AM while Nayaug, Hebron Avenue and the soon to be closed Eastbury schools start at 8:50 AM. Jay
