Unless you're going to commit and go all the way to Cape May/Stone Harbor/Avalon, I would not choose anywhere in NJ over RI, having to deal with the Garden State, the GW, Cross Bronx etc.

Not defending NJ traffic, because it's miserable and if not for family, I would never go to the shore. BUT – Bay Head, Mantaloking, Seaside Park, etc. are just as nice as the southern shore NJ towns you mentioned.

This. Beautiful beaches down the shore but it is a PITA to get there from CT.

My travels there and back were a handful of times midweek and outside of rush hour, no issues. I would never go every weekend and absolutely never use the cross bronx ever, even to Manhattan. I suppose it would be a pain to go every weekend but I doubt an OP is looking to do that, we're talking about a once or twice thing a year here.

I have to agree with regard to the drive to the Southern Monmouth/Northern Ocean county towns. I go down there every few weeks or so (got lots of family at the Shore, refugees from North Jersey). Going on a weekday morning, it takes just over 2 hours to Point Pleasant from Stamford, never any slow traffic to speak of. Same thing coming home, maybe gets a bit jammed up---usually the last few miles in Connecticut. I have to admit I use the Cross Westchester and the Tappan Zee Bridge over to the GSP. It's a bunch more miles, but usually not a problem. Coming home, the removal of toll booths at the TZB has made that a breeze.

I've recommended this trip to people as a 2 or 3-day getaway, even in summer. It is a lot of driving for a day trip though, I wouldn't want to do that, but some might. But it's generally an easy drive at the times I go.

What do all these posts about NJ, NY & RI have to do with Norwalk and the OP's first post?

An OP mentioned real ocean beach access from the area. Everything will be ok, it's all in good fun. Strictly dead serious politics, schools, and taxes talk gets a little mundane after a while, nothing wrong with breaking things up with a little dumb talk now and then

What does beach access in Norwalk, (SOUTHWEST CONNECTICUT) have to do with NY, NJ & RI? I did not see the OP ask about other states.

This is what the OP asked for:

I can provide additional detail on anything if needed. I am hoping this can be a multi-level discussion
*Property Values in Norwalk
*Buying turn-key or fixer upper in SW CT
*Schools in Norwalk
*Alternatives to buying in Norwalk (other cities, or renting)

OP, this is a critical post for you. Please read this first post (from link below) from someone who bought a house in the city Stamford. They realized the schools are not good. That is why I am saying do your homework about the schools in Norwalk a city. Both are in Southwest CT close to one another and have many things in common.

//www.city-data.com/forum/conne...ustration.html

This site that rates schools has Norwalk at 98 and Stamford at 95, so basically about the same.
