With that budget and focus on commute stick to Greenwich & Darien. Yes, you will get more house in one of the W towns (Westport, Wilton, Weston), but with young kids I don't think the tradeoff is worth a longer commute. In Greenwich, your budget is on the lower end for Old Greenwich & Riverside, but you should be able to find something nice in Cos Cob. Just be careful with elementary/middle school districts. Darien there will be more on the market at your budget point that fit what you're looking for, and all the elementary districts are similar (and only one middle school). Yes both Greenwich and Darien are largely white (with Greenwich definitely being more diverse overall due to it being almost the size of a city), but interracial won't be an issue- the racist stereotypes are overblown and you will unfortunately find a few people with that mindset in almost any town.

Unfortunately, this is far from true.

In the communities being discussed, it won’t be an issue.
