With a family, I would drive.

My friends , with 4 kids, never flew, did Az-NY several times, by car.

They alternated with parents driving and sleeping, and oldest son also drove.

We can't have a far above average COL, w/o substantial high income job growth above national rates, w/o pricing thousands of residents out.

COL-ECONOMY-TAXES = root cause of having negative state-state migration.

We did NOT have negative migration in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, btw.

It reversed from a positive trend, after we became the last US state of 42 to add an income tax.

My neighbors spend the same amount of time away in Florida each year too. They call it a vacation. It pays for itself, and they play in the sunshine each winter.
Novel idea!

This has been covered. There is inward migration of higher income people. It’s the $40k to $60k people who are bailing out due to the high cost of living. The poor are trapped in place. The safety net isn’t portable and they don’t have any savings to fund a move. Metro Boston is the same way. If you can’t sponge housing off your parents, you have no choice but to bail out if you only make $20/hr.

I don’t know about that. CT residents, more than ever, are discussing the state of the state. A year ago, I’d say only some people are planning to relocate. Now, it seems many are trying to make plans or follow through with them. Unless something drastic changes, I think things will get worse in CT than better. I hope I’m wrong.

It bothers me to see the attitudes of migration here. It's ok if CT loses 10,000 middle class a year, we want the wealthy anyways.

Wealthy or middle class still need homes, pay taxes, frequent businesses and restaurants amongst dozens of other things. They bring just as much value to any community as any other demographic.

But in the next breath, someone will talk about how employers cannot find good blue collar workers. I wonder why

In the case of those that I know that moved out, they all took their middle class income and jobs and utilizing in another state.

So, CT lost a maintenance technician, assembly technician, QC tester, recruiter, hairdresser, waitress, bookkeeper, chef, CNA, handyman, medical assistant and trainer are just some of the jobs they held. Are these jobs of no value in Connecticut? Do you only need a Masters degree and make 100K to be important?

I'm guessing if that was your hairdresser for the last 10 years, the medical assistant that always greeted you at your doctors office, the handyman that that you could always count on, and your favorite waitress at your local restaurant you might feel differently.

I'm hoping we can put an end to the those comments going forward.

I can safely assume each and every employer was impacted by their departure, and in some cases, the positions still have not been replaced.

It does depend on the situation. Spending six months in the warm weather sounds good but the couple I am talking about found they needed/wanted to spend some of that time back north. They are coming back here for the holidays and two other special events. They also liked and did not want to miss the fall here so in order to not miss these times here but still have six months there they needed to be there in the brutal heat of the summer. They hated that. It is something people need to consider. Jay
