What a terribly planned retirement. The vast majority (actually, all of them) of snowbirds I know absolutely love their lifestyle.

That brings me to another point: snowbirds don’t adopt that lifestyle for affordability - they do so because of climate. The people we should be concerned about are those 30-40 year olds who are relocating permanently to raise their family elsewhere, in addition to the 20 somethings who can’t wait to get out of the suburbs.

I don’t disagree with you. I’m just saying it’s a bit extreme on here.

Most of my friends are content. There’s a few Trumpers that will never be content until they’re in deep red territory (and ironically are doing really well here). Then there’s a couple that think that moving south will make them happy, but probably have deeper life issues (and again, are doing well here).

They all know our gov have failed us and the state has seen better days, but few are as doom and gloom as this forum.

I did not say that they do not like being snowbirds but they were questioning the value of being down south for a full six months a year. If it was the other way around they would not have a problem or concern. Their family is well established here with little desire to move elsewhere so that is not an issue in their case.

I do know another more recent snowbird couple that realized the months in Florida were not worth it after I relayed the first couples issues. They thought about it and now just go down after Christmas and return in April. They may go down once or twice in between but do not even try to be there for six full months. Like I said, it is just something that each person needs to consider carefully. Jay

Agreed, If anything I think there are a few on this board that speak more positively about CT than I have seen elsewhere.

I follow a facebook pages called Connecticuck Memes which has 28k followers and I have yet to see them post CT in a positive light and typically the posts are supported. follow similar pages for NH/Maine/MA and there is far less bashing, if anything its people having pride in their states.

Personally, I know my entire extended family and social network in CT shares the same negative view of CT. Most of them wont leave because of their jobs and family network.

Know of 2 families that have left. Both very affluent. Went south and built business’s down there and are thriving. There was about 10 people total. My wife wants to move down south but with family and good jobs up here we will stay put. We are however looking at “cheaper” places within CT.

All I want is land but looking there are cheaper in CT which fall into the category we are looking for.

Reading through this thread sounds like we're talking about Detroit post 2008. Definitely on the extreme side. While I am not saying that I will be in CT for the long term, I am still planning on holding property here for a very long time. CT is suffering from a leadership/policy making crisis, nothing is fundamentally wrong with it's people, location, and potential for an economic resurgence in the future.

A lot of people making decisions on the here and now are going to regret it (particularly if they are non retirement age) when CT does come back. Everyone harping on about NYC forgets how it the City suffered in the 1970s or Southern CA real estate was in the pits in the late 80s-90s. People forget the cyclical nature of areas.

Besides the day job, I am a real estate investor and I am definitely buying in CT right now. If the price points drop because of these people "fleeing" I will continue to buy. No fear here. I have a good friend with the same profile (works in Finance; invests in RE) is based in the Midwest and he buying like a a madman in Chicago. So it's all about your strategy and vision for the future. I am definitely putting my money where my mouth is.

That's the first thing I thought. Throw the valuables and some food in the car. We'll leave as soon as it gets dark.

A FB meme page with negativity? Shocking.

You all have heard the expression "misery loves company" ? That's exactly what we have here. I rarely hear any one in person complain about CT, if anything people are complimentary.
