Don’t want to sound like I’m stereotyping but I am black and wondering if the accent/slang of people living in the hoods of CT sound similar to NYC ghettos?

Maybe New Haven and Bridgeport do since they are located in the metro area but how about Hartford?

Hartford is more similar to Massachusetts they have some NYC influence not as much as southern Connecticut. Hartford is more similar to Springfield, Providence, and Boston with tiny NYC influence. Bridgeport, New Haven, Waterbury, Stamford have strong influence from New York.

Yeah we do. I think it’s generally a northeastern thing, but considering CT is next to NY.

Bridgeport/New Haven, yes... the people in those cities have close ties to NYC (Bronx, Brooklyn)

I think it’s more personality than language. The two extremes I’ve noticed are; 1) short fused anger, quick talking, fast to react style 2) a more relaxed slow drawl, chill, no cares, style. Both seem in-line with NYC. The words/slang used tend to follow popular music and tv culture.

I am from Stamford and no matter where I go in the US (or even Italy & Bermuda) people will always say "You are a New Yorker". All of my older relatives generations back did start out in Brooklyn and Little Italy in Manhattan so that could have something to do with it too.

I and all my relatives my age and older (1 to 2 generations) started out in the West Side and South End of Stamford which for all intensive purposes is considered "the hood" in Stamford.
