My English husband and I recently moved to Ellington from Western Mass. We have found it difficult to meet people in the area. We were wondering if there were any ex-pats from England living in the area.
I was reluctant to post on this forum as it seems that I never get much of a response from my inquires, but I thought it would be worth a shot.

I'm sorry you haven't been able to find any ex-pats in your area. People on this forum are very helpful if they have the answers to what you are looking for, but in your last few threads you were looking for "English people" and I guess none of them saw your threads. I used to live in London myself, but I'm American. I wish I knew how you could find other English families living in Connecticut, but I don't have a clue where to begin. Hopefully your thread title this time around will prove helpful. Good luck, and welcome to Connecticut!
Btw, that Brit meetup link posted by reason180 wouldn't work for me?
It might help to open your search up to include all of the British Isles, i.e, Scottish, Irish or Welsh.......just a thought.
From reading your OP it sounded like you're limiting your self because you only want to find English people? It might just be me and I'm reading it wrong.
I can appreciate your lonliness here, being new myself. Being new isn't easy, especially in the winter months. I hope things get better for you and with spring comes friends.

Thanks for your time.
Ok - I'm Welsh, so obviously don't fit the bill, but if you're searching for nearby Brits here's a couple of suggestions:
1) britishexpats.com
2) There are many, many Brits-in-the-US type groups on Facebook, so you might want to get yourself on there.
I use both of these and have developed a few new friendships with local Brits as a result.

You definitely hit the nail on the head here. For whatever reason, especially in the northern towns of CT, the people hibernate during the winter. I am a native of CT. I have many people I know but few I spend time with on a regular basis. My best friend is the mom of my daughters best friend.
The best way make new friends is to find a common interest that would give a basic foundation. For example, book clubs, knitting groups (if you like to knit), dog parks, car clubs, boating - whatever the interest would be. Unless there is a British club - it may be difficult to find other Brit's.
no offense taken Ian, have you guys found anyone yet?
