I appreciate you guys for taking your time out and offering your suggestions. I am new to CT and am not very familiar with these towns. I am taking next weekend off to visit all of them.

I have narrowed my list down to towns which would make an easy commute for us to waterbury hospital(southbury, middlebury, woodbury, water town). As physicians we would have odd shifts, so short commute is definitely a priority for us.

Is anyone of you familiar with Ridgewood in Middlebury? They seem to have very nice town homes, I was wondering if someone has prior experience with them.

Again, thank you for your assistance in our moving process.

Kind regards.
Good choice to live as close as possible. You can always visit the various towns mentioned here from where you are living. The great thing about Connecticut is that it is a small state and there is a lot to do nearby.

Ridgewood is a new townhouse development by Toll Brothers. They are known for building upscale homes in good solid communities which is why they are popular with people relocating like you. The homes there are condos. Were you considering buying? Still you might be able to find a rental there. Good luck, Jay

Hey JayCT, I don't think its a good idea to invest in a town I am not familiar with. I would prefer renting a place and see how things unravel.

Any more recommendations people?

I would look into the Planstville section of Southington.

Cheshire is great too- definitely fits the 'upper middle class' criterion- and probably one of the better options commuting wise, but it isn't particularly walkable and renting + restaurant options are limited (although it's pretty good for Italian, but so is Southington).

There are other newer planned developments in Middlebury - brookside and steeplechase.

You could also look into the Traditions neighborhood in Southbury. It is probably 15 miles from the hospital. It's mostly owner occupied, but there appear to be a couple of rentals available.

I don't know if anyone mentioned Oxford up thread, but there may be some limited options there as well - Oxford is sleepy but pretty popular right now and has a town center under development.

Another option would be Bethel, which has a walkable downtown and several newer condo communities, but it is quite a bit further away (a little over 25 miles from the hospital). It would be easier to get to/from Bethel than Middletown or West Hartford, but still not easy.
