First time poster...
We are planning to move to Ridgefield. We love the friendly people and all of the stuff to do in town. We have 4 kids and our oldest will be starting kindergarten in September. We were wondering if there is any differences in the elementary schools. Do they all follow the same curriculum, are there known differences between their principals/administration, are certain schools known to have better parent involvement, are there different enrichment/after school opportunities between them? We are reaching out to the schools as well but would appreciate any information parents or members of the community could share.

All public schools in Ridgefield are excellent. You might find scores to be a tad lower at Veteran’s Park Elementary and Branchville Elementary, solely because of economic reasons. Ridgefield center (near Veteran’s Park) and Branchville (near Branchville Elem) have more condos and rentals, while elementary schools in other areas of town serve mostly affluent neighborhoods. This, by no means, says these schools are subpar, as it’s splittig hairs. All schools have a ton of parental involvement. To my knowledge, curriculum is the same.

As for after school activities, there’s the Boys and Girls Club of Ridgefield. Their club hours are from 2:30 to 6:30 every afternoon and students from the elementary schools are bussed to the club (East Ridge and Veteran’s Park students are walked there each day by club staff). There’s also a summer camp you can enroll them in.

I agree with Kidyankee. All of the schools in Ridgefield are excellent. The town is commonly considered to have the best schools in the state. That would not be true if there were truly good and bad schools in town.

One thing you should understand about Connecticut schools is that the school districts tend to be small so there is a lot of accountability in them. This allows the districts to have very tight curriculum requirements and to give students that need help more attention to be certain they succeed. Connecticut is always considered to have among the best schools in the country so depending on where you are coming from, you should find the schools to be very good. Good luck with your move and welcome to Connecticut. Jay

Thanks, Jay. It’s good to hear that the elementary schools all seem to be similar and equal in quality.
