Would you even be covered if your keys were given to the thief?
Yes, they’re covered, but insurance companies will wait a long period in hopes your vehicle will be recovered before they pay you out. The rental, in the meantime, is on you (in most cases).

Until this "catch and release" policy or law or whatever it is gets changed this is going to keep happening. Until these juvenile detention facilities reopen , this is going to keep happening . Plenty of state reps and senators represent these towns so why aren't there bills out there increasing punishment of juveniles who steal cars ??

^ yep.

If you follow Connecticut State Police on FB, you’ll see Southbury and Roxbury were hit hard the other night. You can also see the two arrested are both from one of the state’s inner cities.

They’re in your towns, guys. And they aren’t your neighborhood kids. Lock your stuff.

Just type in CT car theft on Google and look at all the articles that come up. Seems like most of the thefts come from good towns.

Or drivers can lock their cars and stop leaving the keys in them. That’s also an option too. How about both?

Victim blaming has never solved any crime in the history of man. Sure, it’s foolish to leave keys in the car, but the problem has to be tackled at the root. The root here is our court system holding those accountable that feel entitled to take what they please. If we don’t do that, and 100% if vehicles in CT driveways are locked, they’ll just move onto another crime.

So who is doing all this car theft? Junkies? The root cause and how to tackle it may be very different from what you're suggesting.

Scroll back and re-read the 8 pages on this. You’ll see it’s mentioned numerous times.

Since that's a vague response, I presume that it is junkies. So you propose to toss them in jail for 30 days? Then what? They're released and go back to property crime to feed their addiction. You're not dealing with the root cause.

Again, if you took the time to actually read the thread, you will see it is not junkies. Your theory does not apply, here.
