I recently bought paint at Lowe’s and used a 10% off coupon. I paid the extra tax, it didn’t break me. I get it, people want to complain that CT taxes more, but you get what you pay for.

There are plenty of flat tax states and low tax states to move to. Most are terrible.

You can try and justify high taxes by screaming about the quality of life, when the truth is you can have a good, or even better, quality of life in a low tax state. Are taxes a necessary evil? Yes. But when we’re taxing residents out of the state (literally), there’s a problem.

Nowhere did I suggest a move to Alabama. But there are plenty of lower taxed states that offer an excellent quality of life according to the HDI.

And just a side note about quality of life in CT - the state has fallen from its number 1 spot on the HDI list. I think it will continue to fall.

1.50 tax on paint is not what this is really about. But I’m sure you know this.

State should just erase all taxes and start over.

Should just be a income tax, sales tax for next 15 years, has tax, business tax, and environment tax

If you think you have it bad, be glad you don't live in NJ especially these days as one needs to hold on to hearing what Trenton will "what tax next" or an increase for a money grab.

This is "the price" of living in CT like NJ a mostly Democrat state while the common working man gets $ "shafted".

MA is a mostly Democratic state and the taxes aren't like this. Whoever mismanaged your money is the one to blame.

Sounds like a great reason to pack up and move to another state. If someone buys two gallons of paint a year that person will save $3.00. Over ten years the savings would add up to $30.00. With that type of savings a person can probably retire 5 years earlier.

I was waiting for this response; I see it each time someone brings up a CT tax. As stated, snide remarks aside, people fail to realize simple addition. There’s a reason CT is ranked as the second most tax burdened state in the nation.

People still call it "Taxachusetts".

Whomever mismanaged NJ's and CT's money is to blame.
However (with me in NJ) if it's from a Democrat, my conscience is clear lol!
From other, shame on them!

They can call it what they want but "Taxachusetts" is a misnomer now. Those days are gone.

I don't know who did this to CT (I was away, living in MA so whatever happened, I missed it!)

According to Walkethub, Connecticut is not the second most taxed in the country. It is sixth. Jay
