However, if you are only looking for that specific area, I recommend The Simsbury 1820 House in Simsbury. Connecticut Bed & Breakfast | Simsbury 1820 House

Very quaint Simsbury b+b. https://www.bedandbreakfast.com/ct-s...enacresbb.html

The Connecticut River Valley Inn in Glastonbury. https://www.crvinn.com/

Truman Gillet House B & B in Granby Truman Gillet House B & B - Home Page - This Bed & Breakfast in Granby, CT is a country retreat in a charming 200 year old historical home within the picturesque Connecticut Valley of New England.

One nice B+B not in that area but in Ledyard CT is very nice. Abby's Lantern Hill Inn. It's very picturesque, scenic, and romantic plus it's near the Casinos. https://www.abbeyslanternhill.com/

Winivan Farms in Morris is an incredibly scenic, picturesque resort. It's one of the best luxury resorts in the country. It has walking and biking trails and lots of other activities. There's a spa and a restaurant. It's a bit pricy, but will score major birthday points!

The Saybrook Point Inn and Spa is also what you are looking for, with scenic water views and Fresh Salt being one of the best dining spots. https://www.saybrook.com/

Another resort with good scenic water views and a lot of activities is Water's Edge Resort and Spa in Westbrook CT. https://watersedgeresortandspa.com/

If you don't mind going across the border to Massachusetts though, there is The Cranwell Resort and Spa in Lenox Massachusetts. Another scenic resort with a number of activities. Hotels in Lenox, MA | Cranwell Spa & Golf Resort | Berkshires

Lenox Ma also has Canyon Ranch, very romantic, picturesque, and scenic with a lot of activities. https://www.canyonranch.com/lenox/

Finally, one resort really close to CT is The Ocean House in Westerly RI. It's literally right over the border. Having been there before, I highly recommend it. https://www.oceanhouseri.com/
Winvian is a great choice too. The food is all locally sourced and out of this world. It is also nearby a few excellent restaurants (including the aforementioned Arethusa al Tavolo) and some really beautiful countryside for hiking, apple-picking (the hilltop apple orchard at nearby March Farm is gorgeous) and generally taking in the sights.

Is the Lenox Inn still around? I had to make a late (after work hours) delivery there probably around 1989 and thought it was amazing. They were just sitting down to dinner. I know I've seen signs for it since, but just drove out that way last month and can't remember.

Good point. I’ll splurge a bit, but can’t see more than, say, $400 a night, and that’s very high for me!

The area you describe is a nice place to live but not exactly optimal for a Romantic getaway. Yes there are some things to see and do but I’m not sure it’s ideal. Unless you’re going for friends/family.

If you’d like suggestions in other parts of CT I could link you to some good lodging options.
Old Saybrook, 60 miles away. That could be nice. A bit far. Perhaps, but maybe not too far.

Yeah my point was more to base your trip in a different area of the state that has a more romantic feel, charming towns, history, things to see, etc. The Hartford area certainly has pockets of those things, but is more of a suburban area to live/work.

The shoreline east of New Haven/Lower CT river valley and Litchfield County are our real tourist areas.

Also, on that route you could hit Middletown, Chester, Essex. East Haddam and Gilette Castle. All nice stops. Then go to Madison/Guilford, which are beautiful to explore. Could even stop in New Haven for some great food and tour the Yale campus. The Study at Yale is an excellent hotel in an excellent location.

Hopkins Inn is in that target price range. It's really beautiful and very removed from the hustle and bustle (limited cell phone service). Mayflower Grace and Winvian will be well over $500/night.

That area is pretty limited, however here is the Simsbury 1820 House, a very beautiful bed and breakfast in Simsbury CT. In exactly the area and qualities would seem to fit what he's looking for. It's quaint and picturesque and romantic in a historical setting. Plus it's about a 5 minute drive to Talcott Mountain State Park, which is very scenic and beautiful at this time of year. It's very romantic and plus is very near a lot of great restaurants. And it's in the desired area.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I really want to focus on the Avon - Farmington - Bloomfield - West Hartford area, so that’s what I’m looking for.

Exactly. Thanks Jay. I’m reading the suggestions upthread for this area.
